Wild Miles on the Big River

Writer Boyce Upholt and I spent three days working for Bitter Southerner focusing on John Ruskey, undoubtedly the person with the most knowledge of the Mississippi River south of St. Louis. Ruskey, owner of the Quapaw Canoe Company in Clarksdale, Mississippi, is documenting the river and its offshoots like it's never been done before for his book "River Gator."

The assignment started on the Mighty Mississippi and brought us down the beautiful Atchafalya River in Louisiana. View the Bitter Southerner story here: http://bittersoutherner.com/wild-miles-on-the-big-river.
